Storming the Castle: Konopiště Returns

Complete preview of the Konopiště Open and European talent analysis

🏰 Storming the Castle 🏰

Konopiště Returns

As the Disc Golf Pro Tour makes its first 2025 stop in Europe, we return to one of the sport's most scenic and history-rich venues: the Konopiště Open. Set just outside Benešov, Czech Republic, and nestled beneath the medieval towers of Konopiště Castle, this tournament blends old-world beauty with world-class disc golf. And this year, with many of the top U.S. players opting to stay stateside, the door is wide open for rising European stars — and American stars looking to take advantage of the lower strength-of-field to get a big win on tour.

And who doesn't love early morning disc golf? One of the perks of the European swing on tour.

🏰 A Brief History of the Konopiště Open

The Konopiště Open began in 2013 as the Czech Disc Golf Championship and has grown into one of the most iconic stops in international disc golf. A few key milestones:

2014: Became the first payout event in the Czech Republic as a PDGA B-Tier.

2015: Joined the PDGA EuroTour, gaining traction across Europe.

2016 – 2017: Hosted as part of the Disc Golf World Tour, attracting top global talent. (Go watch this coverage! One of the best final rounds and a great battle between prime McBeast, prime Simon lines, and a veteran KJ Nybo)

2018: Elevated to a PDGA Major (for just one year) — the first ever held in Central Europe.

Eagle McMahon won his first career Major in dominant fashion.

Eveliina Salonen became the first European woman to win a PDGA Major since 2010.

2021: Hosted the European Disc Golf Championship.

2025: Official DGPT Elite Series event.

Over the years, Konopiště has given us unforgettable moments — from Simon Lizotte's throw-in eagle on Hole 17 in 2016 to Eagle's 1065-rated wire-to-wire win in 2018. And with this year's lineup, we could be in for another chapter of drama at this bomber's course.

⚙️ Under the Radar ⚙️

Building Your Konopiště Fantasy Roster

This week presents a rare fantasy situation: fewer American household names = more room to shine for lesser-known European stars. If you're trying to win your league, you'll need to look beyond the obvious.

Steady Picks

These players are likely already rostered, but if they're not and you've got some bench players you are willing to part with you should add these players immediately:

  • Kristin Lätt
  • Silva Saarinen
  • Niklas Anttila
  • Ezra Aderhold
  • Joona Heinanen
  • James Conrad
  • Paul Ulibarri
  • Anniken Kristiansen Steen
  • Väinö Mäkelä
  • Jakub Semerád

All are reliable picks with high floors and podium upside.

Diamonds in the Rough!

Must-Add MPO Players

Mauri Villman: The best player on earth who doesn't play the DGPT. He should be on a roster in 100% of leagues this week. Bonus: he's on the second feature card Friday, so you'll see him early and often. He also finished 9th at the European Open last year - the only non-touring player to do so.

Daniel Davidsson: Big arm, big game, and a real podium threat. Also on Friday's second feature card—he's the kind of player that can get you the win this week.

Roland Kōur: Think 2022 Gannon Buhr. He's fearless, aggressive, and likely to make a run if his putter cooperates. Low risk, very high reward.

Eetu Tuominen: Quietly one of the most exciting young names in Europe. Don't be surprised to see him in a chase card position by the weekend.

Must-Add FPO Players

Kaidi Allsalu: Kristin Latt's best friend—and a proven lead card competitor. She's shared cards with Kristin, Silva, and Eveliina on some of Europe's biggest stages. If she's available, grab her.

Keiti Tatte: Ranked #4 in this week's FPO field. She hasn't played as much this season, but her experience and finishing ability give her a clear edge over much of the field.

Rachel Turton: The top player in the UK and a high-upside flex for teams in need. If your FPO roster needs depth, Turton is a great bet to outperform her projection.

Avoid Heidi Laine: She has officially withdrawn due to injury. Make sure she's out of your lineup before the first tee.

This year's Konopiště Open is must-watch disc golf - and you can watch live coverage with your morning coffee! The field may not be household names, but the opportunity for drama is sky high.
